The Caldas Cultural Centre, which is located close to the current ‘Fish Market’ (Praça do Peixe), and whose construction began in 2006, will have multiple spaces: a grand auditorium with 660 seats, a smaller one with 150 places, the exhibition room and a café concerto.
The project, whose total budget ascended to around 18 millions euros, will provide a fully equipped venue to host shows, congresses and seminars, among other initiatives, with cultural character or not. The project, conceived by the architect Ilídio Pelicano, was executed by Mota-Engil, Engenharia e Construção S.A.
The Mota-Engil Group elected Maquinas to create and implement stage mechanics equipment, decoration, scene lighting, video, cinema and sound systems in both auditoriums and in the café concerto.
Concerning stage mechanics, our company installed a variety of equipments, namely orchestra pit platform and stalls lifts, double and manual bars, counterweight systems, motorised systems, punctual motors on the grid, acoustic panels, grids and ceiling suspension points.
Suspended and stage towers for lighting purposes, DMX network, light control consoles, light design equipment, scene lighting control, circuit distribution infrastructure, dimmers and various spotlights were included in the stage lighting.
Three projection screens, screen curtain, video equipment and system for the public area and video edition, cinema systems and equipments, audio systems and equipments, including microphones, conference system, audio régie, monitors, were among the elements Maquinas provided.
The proposal also included stage decoration, namely main border made of velvet, front curtain, borders, legs, cycloramas and black voile.
